Three kinds of statement

A supplier fact is passed through from a data source and attributed to it. A calculated estimate is computed by us from coordinates or timetables and is labelled as an estimate. An editorial judgement is our opinion and is written as one. These are kept visually and verbally distinct.

The proximity estimate

For any hotel or area we count operational restaurants, the nearest named beach, official bus stops and bookable activities within estimated walking times, and combine them into a score out of ten. Distances are straight-line and walking times are derived from them, so real routes are longer. The categories and weightings are our editorial choice, not a standard. The score says nothing about footpaths, road safety, gated entrances, step-free access or how often buses actually run, and a low score does not mean a place is bad.

Ratings

Restaurant ratings come from Google and are labelled as such. Accommodation guest scores come from the accommodation supplier. We do not republish either as our own review data, and neither feeds structured review markup.

Freshness

Live results show when they were fetched. Cached examples are labelled as examples with the time they were requested. A failure to reach a provider is shown as a failure, never as an absence of service.

Corrections

Mistakes get fixed rather than quietly removed. There is no named responsible editor yet, which is a real gap in accountability and is being treated as one.
